While volatility and liquidations weigh on the short term, many see this correction as a natural pause before the next major move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Market shake-up as crypto liquidations mount<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin\u2019s sharp drop this week triggered widespread volatility across the cryptocurrency market, as a cascade of liquidations erased leveraged long positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In just 24 hours, around $205 billion in market value disappeared, dragging total market capitalisation back to $3.84 trillion \u2013 its lowest point since 6 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Bitcoin sank to its lowest level in nearly seven weeks as the token retreats further from a record high set in mid-August <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ANNf2WZoB8\">https:\/\/t.co\/ANNf2WZoB8<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Bloomberg (@business) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/business\/status\/1960230800923754791?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 26, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CoinGlass data reveals that more than 205,000 traders were liquidated, with total losses exceeding $930 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The downturn was accelerated by a whale offloading 24,000 BTC \u2013 worth approximately $2.7 billion \u2013 which caused Bitcoin to nosedive by nearly $4,000 in a matter of hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selloff also pushed BTC beneath the $110,800 cost basis for one-to-three-month holders, a historically important level for preserving bullish sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even so, Bitcoin\u2019s 12% decline remains milder than corrections from previous bull cycles: September 2017 endured a 36% drawdown, while September 2021 saw a 24% retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should a similar pattern unfold this September, Bitcoin could revisit levels near $87,000 before momentum returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Altcoins absorbed even heavier selling pressure: Solana <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/solana-soars-as-defi-amasses-999999-sol-tokens-on-its-balance-sheet-212400457.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"fell 11% to $186\">fell 11% to $186<\/a>, Dogecoin slipped 10% to $0.21, Cardano dropped 9% to $0.83, and Chainlink declined 11% to $23.30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ethereum also weakened, losing 7% on the day to trade above $4,400 \u2013 down more than 11% since recording a new all-time high earlier in the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Technical analysis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin (BTC\/USD) has delivered an impressive rally in 2025, climbing from April\u2019s low near $74,778 to its August peak at $124,492.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since that high, however, BTC has corrected back to around $110,269, now trading below its shorter-term moving averages. A decisive break below this zone, however, would confirm a deeper corrective move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite this pullback, the long-term outlook for Bitcoin remains bullish, although the near-term picture points to consolidation or another test of lower levels before the uptrend resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Cautious forecast<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Bitcoin struggles to reclaim the $110,800 cost-basis level, the risk of a broader retracement increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In that case, a move towards $100,000\u2013$95,000 becomes more likely, with these zones acting as the next critical support areas to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such a scenario could also pressure sentiment across altcoins, prolonging the current phase of market weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the flip side, if dip buyers step in \u2013 as they have in previous bull cycles \u2013 Bitcoin could rebound quickly, regaining lost ground towards $115,000\u2013$120,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A return above this zone would likely reignite bullish confidence and set the stage for a retest of August\u2019s highs near $124,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much will depend on whether whale-driven selling continues or eases.
