USD/SGD poised for range trade as US yields and yuan dictate near-term direction

USD/SGD drifted lower through most of last week in tandem with a broader softening in the US dollar and lower US Treasury yields, before trimming losses on Friday. With the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s October decision out of the way, external factors have again taken the lead in driving the pair, leaving near-term moves sensitive to swings in the USD, US Treasury yields and the RMB.

The Singapore dollar’s medium-term backdrop was described as constructive, but outperformance may be capped while the S$NEER sits in the upper half of its policy band, unless the USD weakens sharply. Technical signals point to mild bearish daily momentum and a stabilising RSI, suggesting two-way trading for now. Key support is flagged at 1.2750 on the 50-day moving average, alongside 1.2740 at the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of the 2026 low-to-high move. Resistance levels are seen at 1.2790 on the 21-day moving average and 50% Fibonacci mark, and 1.2820 at the 100-day moving average.

Range-Bound Outlook And Key Drivers

We expect USD/SGD to remain locked in a range-bound structure over the next few weeks as external factors like Federal Reserve policy expectations and US Treasury yields drive price action. With the Monetary Authority of Singapore keeping its monetary stance steady in October, local policy uncertainty has cleared, shifting full focus back onto US interest rate trajectory and the Chinese Yuan. For derivative traders, this environment favors short-term range strategies rather than aggressive directional bets.

Because the S$NEER is hovering near the top half of its policy band, the scope for the Singapore Dollar to rally significantly further against its peers remains capped. Historically, when the S$NEER approaches these upper boundaries, upside momentum in the Singapore Dollar slows down unless a massive broader sell-off hits the US Dollar. Derivative traders should keep this structural ceiling in mind when structuring options trades or seeking leverage on SGD strength.

Strategy And Key Technical Levels

We recommend watching key technical levels to execute tactical two-way trades across upcoming sessions. Strong downside support rests around 1.2750 and 1.2740, which aligns with major moving averages and key Fibonacci retracement levels from the 2026 price range. On the upside, resistance is tightly packed around 1.2790 and 1.2820, providing clean entry zones for traders seeking to fade temporary USD spikes.

Given that daily momentum indicators show mild bearishness while the Relative Strength Index is stabilizing, selling volatility or trading breakout swings near these defined boundaries offers the best risk-to-reward ratio. As US 10-year Treasury yields fluctuate around critical macro levels, traders using options strategies like iron condors or tight straddles can capture yield while price stays constrained within the 1.2740 to 1.2820 corridor. Keeping position sizes manageable will help navigate short-term choppy price movements heading into the next FOMC updates.
