USD/CHF hits June 2025 high as SNB seen holding zero rates and Fed hike bets rise

USD/CHF rose to its highest level since June 2025 after a Bloomberg report said the Swiss National Bank could hold its policy rate at zero through end-2027. The SNB later declined to comment, according to Reuters. The pair was trading near 0.8187, extending gains for a sixth straight session, as Swiss inflation stays within the SNB’s 0%–2% price-stability range despite firmer oil prices since the US-Iran war began.

Monetary policy expectations continue to diverge. Markets look for the Federal Reserve to keep rates unchanged on Wednesday at 3.50%–3.75%, though pricing indicates a 33% chance of an immediate hike, while a September increase is seen at about 81% on the CME FedWatch Tool. The US Dollar Index was around 101.47 after rebounding from an intraday low of 101.12, following earlier pressure linked to a brief pause in attacks that later gave way to renewed caution as the outlook for a peace agreement weakened.

Trade Recommendation and Market Drivers

We recommend that derivative traders position themselves for further upward momentum in USD/CHF by utilizing bullish call options or long futures contracts in the coming weeks. The currency pair is currently trading around 0.8187, marking its highest level since June 2025 after a strong six-day winning streak. With the Swiss National Bank rumored to hold its policy rate at zero percent until late 2027, the path of least resistance for this pair remains firmly to the upside.

The primary driver for this trade is the widening interest rate gap, especially with the Federal Reserve currently maintaining its benchmark rate at a high 3.50%-3.75%. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, there is already an 81% probability of a Fed rate hike in September, alongside a 33% chance of a surprise hike this Wednesday. We suggest buying short-term call options ahead of Wednesday’s Fed announcement to capture potential volatility and profit from a hawkish surprise.

Safe Haven Dynamics and Risk Management

Although both the greenback and the franc are traditional safe havens, the ongoing US-Iran war is heavily favoring the US dollar. Furthermore, the Swiss National Bank has a well-documented history of currency market interventions, previously spending billions of francs to prevent excessive currency strength. This implicit ceiling on the Swiss franc limits the downside risk for traders holding long USD/CHF positions.

With the US Dollar Index recovering to 101.47, we believe the greenback has the structural support needed to push USD/CHF toward the 0.8300 level. Traders should set protective stop-losses just below the 0.8100 support level to guard against any sudden diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East. Utilizing call spreads can also help lower the cost of entry while protecting against sudden shifts in market sentiment.
