Germany’s Bavaria saw a reduction in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) year-on-year, dropping to 1.7% in December from the previous 2.2% in November.

In the United States, the ADP Employment Change Report for December is anticipated to be released soon. This report is expected to reveal the creation of 45,000 jobs in December 2025, aiming to compensate for the 32,000 job losses that occurred in November.

Bavarian Inflation

The drop in Bavarian inflation to 1.7% is a significant signal for us, suggesting that price pressures in the Eurozone’s largest economy are easing faster than the European Central Bank’s 2% target. This development will likely force the ECB to consider rate cuts sooner rather than later, especially after they held their main rate at a peak of 4.0% for the final quarter of 2025. This outlook puts downward pressure on the Euro, making short-term EUR put options a strategy to consider.

Today’s ADP employment report from the US is now the market’s primary focus, with expectations of a meager 45,000 job gain for December 2025. This number looks especially weak when we remember it follows a net loss of 32,000 jobs in November and pales in comparison to the monthly averages that were well above 150,000 during the first half of 2025. A weak print today would confirm a significant economic slowdown and increase the odds of a Federal Reserve rate cut, which would weaken the US dollar.

Currency Pair Volatility

With both the ECB and the Fed now facing pressure to ease policy, the immediate direction for the EUR/USD currency pair is uncertain. This uncertainty often leads to higher implied volatility, which we have seen creeping up in overnight markets from around 6.5% to over 8% for one-week options. Traders should therefore consider strategies that benefit from a large price move in either direction, such as buying straddles or strangles on near-term currency options ahead of the official Non-Farm Payrolls data later this week.
