Gold prices in the Philippines fell on Thursday, based on FXStreet-compiled data. The metal was priced at PHP 8,901.44 per gram, down from PHP 8,955.29 on Wednesday, while the per-tola level eased to PHP 103,824.90 from PHP 104,452.80. Reference prices also put gold at PHP 89,015.05 for 10 grams and PHP 276,865.80 per troy ounce.

FXStreet derives local quotations by translating international pricing via USD/PHP into Philippine currency and standard units, with daily updates taken at publication time; local market rates may differ slightly. Central banks remain the largest holders of bullion, according to the World Gold Council, adding 1,136 tonnes valued at about $70 billion in 2022, the highest annual purchase on record, with emerging-market buyers including China, India and Turkey. Gold is typically inversely correlated with the US Dollar and US Treasuries, and it is also often inversely correlated with risk assets; price moves also reflect interest-rate shifts and XAU/USD dynamics.

Derivative Trading Opportunities Amid Price Correction

As gold prices in the Philippines pull back to PHP 8,901.44 per gram, we view this temporary decline as a prime entry point for derivative traders looking to build long positions. While the daily drop of over 50 pesos might spark short-term caution, the broader macroeconomic backdrop remains highly supportive of precious metals. We recommend using this minor correction to accumulate bullish positions, particularly through call options or leveraged futures contracts.

Central Bank Demand and Macro Tailwinds

Our positive outlook is backed by recent World Gold Council statistics, which highlight that central banks bought over 1,030 metric tons of gold annually to diversify away from fiat currencies. Additionally, historical data shows that gold thrives in environments of falling real interest rates, a trend that is currently playing out across global markets. This strong institutional backing creates a highly resilient price floor for the metal, making any deep downward trends unlikely to last.

For the coming weeks, we suggest derivative traders utilize bull call spreads to minimize upfront premium costs while capturing the upward momentum. Traders should closely monitor the USD/PHP exchange rate and global spot prices for signs of stabilization before entering heavy positions. By patiently buying these dips, we can position our portfolios to benefit from the next inevitable leg up in the safe-haven rally.
