Nasdaq tests key support as KOSPI and SOXX slump despite mixed Microsoft and Meta earnings

South Korea’s KOSPI extended its slide, leaving it down almost 44% from its June peak, while the SOXX semiconductor ETF has fallen close to 30%. The Nasdaq has dropped about 13%, with much of that move concentrated in the past seven sessions, even as large technology groups report strong earnings and rising revenue. On the charts, the Nasdaq has slipped below its daily 50‑EMA band and is testing the lower trendline of a descending channel, with a prior consolidation zone around 26,800 to 27,400 in focus. The Stochastic RSI is oversold, while the weekly 50‑EMA is nearing the 2025 highs at roughly 25,755 to 26,255; at the same time, the KOSPI is nearing 5,000 to 5,500 and SOXX is probing 461, with 431.74 to 445.26 beneath.

Microsoft reported revenue of around $90bn versus forecasts near $87.6bn, with Azure up 43% and Microsoft Cloud revenue rising 27%, alongside capital expenditure of about $41bn and free cash flow of roughly $19.6bn; it guided to about 45% Azure growth in constant currency and revenue of $89.85bn to $90.95bn. Meta posted revenue up 28% to $60.8bn, but costs rose 55%, operating margin fell from 43% to 31%, and operating income declined 8%. In Korea, index sensitivity to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix has amplified moves: SK Hynix logged a 557% jump in operating profit yet missed expectations, and its shares sank almost 10%, as crowded positioning and leveraged ETF unwinds compounded selling.

Volatility Risks Amid Tech Sell-Off And Semiconductor Market Dynamics

We believe derivative traders should prepare for high volatility as the global tech sell-off reaches critical support levels. The dramatic 44% drop in South Korea’s KOSPI and a 30% decline in the SOXX semiconductor ETF show how quickly momentum can turn. With the Nasdaq shedding roughly 13% recently, we must closely monitor these levels for potential trading opportunities.

This sharp downturn comes after global semiconductor sales grew over 12% in 2025 to reach a record $687 billion, setting investor expectations incredibly high. However, recent industry reports indicate that global chip inventory levels rose by nearly 15% last quarter, leading to a sudden shift in market sentiment. Historical tech corrections, like the one in late 2022, show that when memory-chip demand cools slightly, leveraged unwinding can rapidly accelerate price drops.

Key Technical Levels, Strategy Considerations, And Corporate Earnings Impact

We should focus on the Nasdaq as it tests the 26,800 to 27,400 support zone and its daily 50-EMA band. Since the Stochastic RSI is now in oversold territory, we can look to establish short-term call options or long futures positions to capture a potential relief rally. If the index fails to hold these levels, we must quickly pivot to protective puts as the weekly 50-EMA near 25,755 becomes the next target.

At the same time, we need to monitor the SOXX value-area low near 461 and the KOSPI’s support range between 5,000 and 5,500. A simultaneous bounce across all three markets would offer a high-probability setup for short-term long strategies. However, if these support zones fail to hold, it could signal a deeper structural decline, making short positions the safer play.

We must also weigh the mixed corporate earnings, where massive artificial intelligence capital expenditures are facing intense scrutiny. Microsoft’s strong 27% cloud growth and $19.6 billion in free cash flow show that some AI investments are paying off. Meanwhile, Meta’s 55% cost jump has left us questioning how quickly these heavy investments will translate into bottom-line profits.
