Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee told Fox Business the US labour market remains steady, while adding that the inflation side of the Federal Reserve’s mandate is more important. He said policymakers are looking for evidence that price pressures are moving back towards the Fed’s 2% inflation goal.
Monetary Policy Outlook And Meeting Options
On policy, Goolsbee said there is “plenty of room” for options at the next rate-setting meeting, including a hike or a pause. He also stressed he would not react strongly to a single month of data, and said he would not rule out any decision at the upcoming meeting.
