EUR/USD Trading Strategies: Cautious Range-Bound Approach Recommended

———————————————————————-

We believe derivative traders should adopt a cautious, range-bound approach for EUR/USD in the coming weeks as the pair hovers near 1.1255. While the US dollar has eased slightly, the US 10-year Treasury yield remains incredibly strong at 5.29%, signaling that underlying dollar demand is still highly potent. To capitalize on this, we suggest trading the range by setting buy orders near the 1.1180 support level while preparing for sudden breakout shifts.

Tomorrow’s release of the FOMC meeting minutes is the next major trigger, especially with the market currently pricing in a 78% chance of a rate pause for the October 27-28 meeting. If these minutes lean unexpectedly hawkish, we could see the US Dollar Index quickly rally back toward its year-to-date high of 102.53. Traders can use short-term option straddles to benefit from this potential volatility without having to take a directional risk ahead of the news.

European Political Risks and Euro Hedging Strategies

—————————————————-

On the European side, we must watch France’s fiscal troubles as the government fights to pass its 2027 budget. Historically, when French political risk rises, the yield spread between French and German 10-year bonds widens—recently pushing past 80 basis points—which heavily pressures the Euro. Consequently, we favor using out-of-the-money put options on the Euro to hedge against a sudden downside break if these budget negotiations collapse.

EUR/USD edged higher on Tuesday as the US Dollar softened alongside a retreat in Treasury yields, though the Euro’s advance was capped by concerns over France’s fiscal position. The pair was trading near 1.1255, up 0.29% on the day, as the 10-year yield rebounded to about 5.29% after dipping towards 5.25%, and remained close to Monday’s 5.349% high, the strongest level since 2002. The US Dollar Index was around 101.87 after reaching a year-to-date peak of 102.53 on Monday.

Attention has shifted to US monetary policy after last week’s softer Nonfarm Payrolls and PCE inflation prints reduced the perceived need for further tightening at the Federal Reserve’s 27–28 October meeting. CME FedWatch pricing implied roughly a 78% chance of a hold, while the Fed’s 2% inflation target kept December in view; traders now look to Wednesday’s FOMC minutes for guidance. In Europe, uncertainty persisted as France navigates securing backing for its 2027 budget in a divided parliament, while ECB communication stayed cautious, with Olli Rehn pointing to limited inflation broadening beyond energy and stressing that high long-term rates are restraining growth and pass-through effects.
