EUR/USD Technicals, Forecasts, and Market Drivers

EUR/USD struggled to build on Thursday’s rally as the US dollar steadied, leaving the pair near 1.1230 after an intraday high of 1.1269. Even so, it remained on course for its first weekly advance in six weeks. The dollar found support from hawkish Federal Reserve expectations after US inflation data kept the prospect of another rate rise before year-end in play. The Dollar Index stood around 101.90, having earlier dipped to 101.58, its lowest since 1 October, while the euro drew only limited help from anticipated European Central Bank tightening as markets weighed growth risks and France’s fiscal and political backdrop.

One bank cut its year-end EUR/USD forecast to 1.10 from 1.14, after the pair reached 1.12 faster than expected, and projected a test of 1.08 in H1 2027 before a recovery to 1.14 in H2 2027 and 1.20 by end-2028. Technically, the pair remained below the 50-day and 100-day SMAs at 1.1469 and 1.1470 and the 200-day SMA at 1.1584. Resistance levels were flagged at 1.1239, 1.1319 and 1.1383, with further hurdles at 1.1447, 1.1538, 1.1584 and the cycle high at 1.1654; support was placed near 1.1111. RSI was 38 and MACD had turned marginally positive.

Derivative Trading Strategy and Outlook

We believe derivative traders should maintain a leaning toward US Dollar strength and look to fade Euro rallies in the coming weeks. With US inflation remaining sticky and European growth lagging alongside political friction in France, fundamental forces continue to favor the Greenback. According to global forex data, EUR/USD accounts for roughly 30% of all foreign exchange turnover, meaning institutional flows during these trend shifts will be heavy and decisive.

We suggest using derivative contracts to short temporary bounces into immediate resistance levels around 1.1239 and 1.1319. Historical patterns show that when price sits well beneath major moving averages like the 50-day and 200-day, counter-trend rallies frequently run out of steam fast. Downside targets should be set near the critical 1.1111 support floor, with an eye toward a deeper move toward 1.1000 before year-end.

Options Tactics and Risk Management

For options traders, we favor entering bear put spreads to capitalize on a drop while keeping upfront premium costs low. The Relative Strength Index currently hovering near 38 indicates that downside momentum is slowing temporarily, which can lower option volatility pricing for new entries. Buying downside protection during these minor pause phases offers a favorable risk-to-reward ratio before the next leg lower.

We advise strict risk management by placing stops or exit triggers above the 1.1383 to 1.1470 resistance band, where the key 50-day and 100-day moving averages cluster. Historically, failing to defend those higher levels leads to sharp trend continuations rather than full reversals. Hedging spot positions with short-dated put options will safeguard portfolios if market sentiment shifts rapidly toward tests of 1.0800 in the medium term.
