Bitcoin (BTC) moved back above $80,000 on Monday as gold (XAU/USD) reclaimed $4,000, with the pair up 0.34% and 0.64%, respectively, in subdued trading ahead of the Federal Reserve decision on Wednesday and a slate of large-cap technology earnings. Markets are leaning towards a policy pause: Fed funds futures indicate a 91% probability of rates being held in the 3.75%-4.00% range, while 9% imply a hike. Risk appetite has been steady but restrained, with the crypto Fear & Greed Index at 50, after readings of 59 last week and 74 last month. Volatility could reprice after the decision and earnings from Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG) and Amazon (AMZN).

BTC was last at $80,454, capped by the 50-day EMA at $80,812 while holding above the SuperTrend near $79,664, alongside the 100- and 200-day EMAs at $77,690 and $76,313. Momentum gauges remain soft, with RSI at 43 and MACD below zero. Gold traded at $4,021, with resistance clustered around the SuperTrend at $4,211 and the 50-, 100- and 200-day EMAs at $4,215, $4,278 and $4,284; RSI was 36 and MACD stayed negative, while a nearer hurdle sits by $4,074.

Volatility Outlook Ahead Of Fed And Tech Earnings

We should prepare for a sharp shift from quiet range-bound trading to high volatility as the Federal Reserve decision and major tech earnings converge this week. With probability models pricing in a 91% chance of interest rates holding steady between 3.75% and 4.00%, the immediate rate path is mostly priced in, but forward-looking guidance could trigger aggressive moves. Historically, major central bank announcements combined with mega-cap tech reports push short-term implied volatility up by 15% to 25%, making option straddles or breakout strategies attractive.

Trading Ranges And Strategies For Bitcoin And Gold

For Bitcoin, we are tracking the narrow $79,664 to $80,813 range, where thin trading volumes and suppressed leverage signal a potential coils-and-spring pattern. A decisive daily close above the 50-day Exponential Moving Average at $80,812 opens the door for long calls and bullish futures positions targeting higher levels. Conversely, if price breaks below the SuperTrend support at $79,664, derivative traders should consider downside protection, targeting secondary support zones near $77,690 and $76,313.

In the gold market, spot prices holding above $4,000 represent a short-term relief bounce within a broader corrective structure. Because overhead resistance remains heavy around the $4,074 trendline and the $4,211 SuperTrend level, selling call spreads on rallies or buying put options on weak bounces offers a favorable risk-to-reward ratio. Historically, gold sees average daily price swings expand from 0.8% to over 2.2% during dense macro weeks, so managing leverage tightly remains critical until price reclaims its major moving averages.
