The Us Dollar Index Weakens But Holds Key Support

The US Dollar Index (DXY) extended losses for a second day, trading around 101.90 in Asian hours on Friday, while still holding above the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA). The near-term bias remained bullish, but price action ran into the nine-day EMA at 102.07 as immediate resistance, and the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) stood at 57.40, indicating positive but not overbought momentum. On the daily chart, DXY sat slightly below the lower boundary of an ascending channel, suggesting fading upside momentum; the move was framed as either a brief dip or a stop-loss sweep beneath support.

If DXY regains the channel, attention turns to the 18-month high of 102.94 set on October 14, with scope to probe the ascending wedge top near 103.70. On the downside, the 50-day EMA at 100.87 is the first area to watch, and a deeper pullback would expose the five-month low of 98.56 from August 20. Fed Chair Warsh’s remarks scored 5.6/10 on the FXS Speechtracker versus a 6.1/10 historical average, while the FXS Fed Sentiment Index was flat at 127.51 after a 0.00-point move. Separately, Commerzbank pointed to US CPI, retail sales and producer price data coming in stronger than expected, though the Dollar failed to hold mid-week gains.
