USD/CHF rebounds on strong US jobs data as 50-day SMA holds, eyes 0.8200

USD/CHF rebounded on Thursday, ending a two-day decline and rising by over 0.60% after firm US jobs data. The move was underpinned by a defence of the 50-day Simple Moving Average at 0.8052, which helped lift the pair back above 0.8100.

The broader uptrend remains in place, with higher highs and higher lows intact, while the Relative Strength Index has moved above its 50 neutral level. Resistance is centred on 0.8150; if that gives way, price action points to 0.8200, with the yearly high at 0.8207 acting as the next barrier. A break there would open the June 4, 2025 cycle high at 0.8250, followed by 0.8300. On the downside, initial support sits at 0.8100, and a drop below the 50-day SMA at 0.8052 would bring 0.8000 into focus.

Derivative Trading Strategies And Technical Rationale

We advise derivative traders to position for a sustained USD/CHF upward move in the coming weeks, especially after the pair successfully defended its 50-day Simple Moving Average at 0.8052. Buying call options with a strike price of 0.8150 or setting up bull call spreads presents an attractive risk-reward profile right now. This bullish momentum is supported by the RSI crossing back above the 50-neutral mark, indicating that buyers are firmly in control of the near-term trend.

Macroeconomic Drivers And Positioning For Futures

This technical breakout aligns with strong macroeconomic fundamentals, including the latest US labor data which showed a robust addition of 175,000 non-farm payrolls last month, keeping the US unemployment rate steady at 4.1%. Furthermore, the wide interest rate differential heavily favors the greenback, as the Federal Reserve’s benchmark rate remains near 4.25% compared to the Swiss National Bank’s lower policy rate of 1.0%. This 325-basis-point yield advantage historically triggers capital flows out of the safe-haven Swiss Franc and into higher-yielding US dollar assets.

For futures and forward traders, we recommend establishing long positions above 0.8100 with a strict stop-loss placed just below the key psychological support of 0.8000. Our primary upside targets are set at the 0.8200 level, with an eye toward testing the previous cycle high of 0.8250 seen in mid-2025. If the spot rate breaks past the yearly high of 0.8207, we anticipate a rapid acceleration toward the major resistance zone at 0.8300.
