With no major economic releases, Middle East developments drove flows. The Euro strengthened earlier after the US Dollar softened on a Reuters report that mediators had proposed a 10-day pause in strikes to help revive the interim US-Iran deal, while officials from both sides indicated diplomacy remained possible; momentum then reversed after Reuters said Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis had announced an immediate naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, prompting a move back into the Dollar.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) hovered near 101.00, rebounding from a low of 100.65. Oil has risen to its highest level in more than a month since fighting between the US and Iran resumed earlier in July, keeping energy-led inflation risks in view after price pressures cooled in both the Eurozone and the US in June. Markets expect the European Central Bank (ECB) to hold its Deposit Facility Rate at 2.25% on Thursday, while still fully pricing a hike by September; in the US, the CME FedWatch Tool puts the probability of a Federal Reserve (Fed) rate rise in September at about 63%.

Options Strategies And Volatility Plays

We recommend that derivative traders brace for heightened volatility by utilizing long straddle strategies on the EUR/USD. With the currency pair swinging rapidly between 1.1400 and 1.1450 on shifting Middle East headlines, buying both call and put options allows us to capture gains from sharp breakouts in either direction. This approach is supported by the Eurozone’s foreign exchange implied volatility index, which has surged by over 12% in recent days.

We should also look at interest rate options to play the widening policy divergence between the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank. Currently, the CME FedWatch Tool indicates a 63% probability of a US rate hike in September, while the ECB is anticipated to hold its deposit rate at 2.25% this week before hiking later. Historically, when rate probabilities hover near 60%, option premiums tend to underprice the actual market move once the central bank finally acts.

Inflation Hedges And Defensive Positioning

Additionally, we advise hedging against renewed inflation by taking long call options on Brent crude futures. Oil prices have climbed back toward $85 a barrel due to the naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, threatening to undo the inflation cooling we saw in June. Since Eurozone inflation remains sensitive, energy-driven price shocks could quickly force the ECB to adopt an even tighter stance than currently priced.

Finally, we suggest using US Dollar Index (DXY) futures to protect broader portfolios against sudden shifts in global risk sentiment. The DXY is currently testing the 101.00 level and could easily break higher if geopolitical headlines worsen. Historically, a sustained move above this resistance has led to a quick 1.5% drop in the EUR/USD, making cheap downside puts on the Euro an attractive defensive play.

Start trading now — click <a href="https://www.vtmarkets.com/en-eu/trade-now/>here to create your real VT Markets account.

EUR/USD dipped as Middle East headlines whipsawed risk sentiment; oil surged, boosting volatility and hedging demand.

[33

post-52220","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-live-updates
["GET
