The BoJ\u2019s mandate targets price stability around 2%, after years of ultra-loose policy since 2013 using QQE, the introduction of negative rates and 10-year yield control in 2016, and a rate lift in March 2024 as it retreated from that stance.<\/p>\n

With policy rates projected to reach 1.5% by early next year, we are seeing a dramatic shift in market sentiment. Given the growing expectations for a stronger Yen, we recommend buying USD\/JPY put options to profit from a potential downward move in the currency pair. Historical trends show that when the central bank surprised the market with a rate hike in July 2024, the Yen surged, pushing the USD\/JPY pair down by nearly 10% in just a few weeks. Using bearish option spreads can help us limit our risk while positioning for another sharp drop below the current levels.<\/p>\n
For interest rate derivative traders, we should consider shorting Japanese Government Bond futures or entering pay-fixed interest rate swaps.
