Lower yields followed, while an earlier safe-haven bid linked to Middle East tensions ebbed after the US said the Strait of Hormuz was free of mines. Focus now turns to Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Kevin Warsh, who is due to speak at the Jackson Hole symposium on Friday. Technically, the pair was at 0.5977 on the four-hour chart, holding above the 20-period Simple Moving Average (SMA) near 0.5967 and the 100-period SMA around 0.5900, with resistance at 0.5983 and an RSI near 62. Support levels are seen at 0.5971, then 0.5967\u20130.5965, with 0.5944 below.<\/p>\n\n
We believe derivative traders should position for a near-term rally in the NZD\/USD pair as it tests key resistance at 0.5983. With the US Treasury’s massive $1 trillion buyback plan putting downward pressure on yields, the US Dollar Index has recently slipped by over 0.5% to slide below the 101.50 mark. We suggest setting initial upside profit targets near the next major psychological resistance level of 0.6050.<\/p>\n\n
