At the same time, the dollar\u2019s firmness was weighed against expectations that July US CPI may slow, tempering prospects of a near-term Federal Reserve (Fed) rate increase; market pricing for a September hike was described as just under 50%.<\/p>\n\n
Oil sentiment improved after no progress in US-Iran talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a transit route for almost 20% of global energy supply, while the MCX crude contract expiring 19 August was near flat at roughly Rs 7,920. Earlier, OPEC cut its global oil demand growth forecast for the year to 580,000 bpd from 780,000 bpd. In India, July retail CPI rose to 4.45% year-on-year from 4.38% in June, close to the 4.50% estimate and within the RBI\u2019s 2%\u20136% band. Technically, USD\/INR stayed below the 20-day EMA at 95.50 and the RSI (14) was 46.74; support sat near 95.30 and 94.83, with resistance at 96.00.<\/p>\n\n

Since the pair is currently trading at 95.35, just below its 20-day Exponential Moving Average of 95.50, upward momentum seems capped for now. On the downside, we see immediate support at 95.30, with a stronger floor established at the August 5 low of 94.83.
