In Europe, Germany\u2019s HICP printed 2.8% year on year in July versus 2.4% in June, with energy inflation jumping to 7.3% from 2.7% and the ex-food-and-energy rate edging up to 2.6% from 2.5%. The ECB tightening narrative for September remained in focus, but the euro drew limited lift as Middle East tensions resurfaced around reported vessel attacks near the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb and no current ceasefire-extension talks, while Trump demanded reparations. Technically, EUR\/USD traded at 1.1546, above the 100-period SMA at 1.1541 and the 200-period SMA at 1.1533, with RSI at 60.75; resistance sits at 1.1560 then 1.1581, while support lies at 1.1541\/1.1533, 1.1515, 1.1500 and 1.1480.<\/p>\n
Given that US inflation slowed to 3.4% and German inflation jumped to 2.8%, we suggest derivative traders focus on range-bound options strategies for EUR\/USD over the coming weeks. The opposing forces of expected ECB tightening in September and safe-haven demand for the US Dollar are likely to keep the currency pair contained. Historically, when these two factors clash, EUR\/USD implied volatility tends to compress, making short-volatility strategies like iron condors highly attractive.<\/p>\n
For short-term tactical plays, we recommend using the immediate technical boundaries of 1.1530 and 1.1580 to set up defined-risk strategies. Traders can write out-of-the-money puts below the 1.1500 structural support while simultaneously selling calls above the 1.1600 level.
