The Dollar Index (DXY) was up 0.15% at roughly 101.03, attracting buying interest after dipping to around 100.55 last week. In June, the Fed held rates at 3.50%–3.75%, while the dot plot showed nine of 19 policymakers favouring a year-end hike; Fed Chair Kevin Warsh offered no forward guidance.

Lower oil prices, helped by normalising traffic near the Strait of Hormuz, which handles almost 20% of global energy supply, were presented as supportive for an oil-importing economy such as India. The MCX Crude Oil July 20 contract slipped 0.2% to near 6,550, close to its multi-month low of 6,426 set on Thursday, while Citi projected Brent could fall to $60 by year-end from about $71.50. Foreign Institutional Investors were net buyers on Friday, with Rs. 1,355.33 crore in Indian equities, and SEBI is seeking to reduce collateral for stock borrowing while nearly doubling the pool of shares eligible for lending and borrowing; TCS is due to report Nifty50 earnings on Thursday. USD/INR held above the 20-period EMA at about 94.97, with RSI near 54; supports sat at 94.97, 94.83 and 94.03, while resistance was flagged around 97.11–97.10.

USD/INR Outlook Hinges On FOMC Minutes And Fed Guidance

As of today, July 6th, 2026, we see the USD/INR pair testing higher levels near 95.42. The main event this week will be the FOMC minutes released this Wednesday, which will guide the US Dollar’s next move. Given the uncertainty, we are cautious about taking large directional bets until the Fed’s tone is clearer.

Recent US inflation data, with CPI holding firm at 3.8%, supports the view that the Federal Reserve will remain hesitant to signal any rate cuts. This underlying strength in the dollar suggests that any dips in the USD/INR pair are likely to be bought. We are watching the US Dollar Index closely, which is currently holding above the key 101.00 level.

Supportive Factors For INR, Market Volatility And Technicals

However, we believe factors supporting the Rupee should not be ignored, which could limit significant upside in the pair. Oil prices remain a key advantage for India, with Brent crude trading near $71.50 a barrel. Lower energy import costs directly improve India’s trade balance and provide a cushion for the Rupee.

The return of Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) as net buyers on Friday is also a positive sign for Indian assets. Last month’s reported Q1 GDP growth of 6.9% continues to attract foreign capital into our equity markets. A strong start to the earnings season, beginning with TCS on Thursday, could accelerate these inflows and put pressure on USD/INR.

From a technical standpoint, the pair remains in a short-term uptrend above the 94.97 mark. We see this level as a critical support zone, and a failure to hold it could signal a loss of upward momentum. For now, we are considering strategies that benefit from range-bound movement with a slight upward bias, possibly selling out-of-the-money puts below 94.50.

The expected changes from SEBI to ease short-selling rules may introduce more two-way volatility into the market. While India’s VIX index has been low, these new rules could change that dynamic in the coming weeks. We will be looking for opportunities to trade this potential rise in volatility, perhaps through long straddle or strangle option strategies.

Start trading now — click <a href="https://www.vtmarkets.com/en-ca/trade-now/>here to create your real VT Markets account.

Rupee opened weaker as dollar firmed; oil softened, FIIs bought equities; focus shifts to FOMC minutes.

[59

post-56627","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-live-updates
["GET
