The market is forecasting the January CPI figure to come in at 2.9%, a slight cooling from the previous month. A higher-than-expected number would challenge the narrative that the Bank of England can proceed with further rate cuts, likely strengthening the pound. Conversely, a significant drop in inflation could accelerate rate cut expectations and pressure the currency.<\/p>\n
This uncertainty is causing a noticeable rise in one-week implied volatility for GBP\/USD options, which has climbed to 8.5%.
