Recent data releases have been mixed, with the Euro only reacting to disappointing figures like the Consumer Price Index (CPI), while ignoring positive surprises such as German industrial production.

These mixed data have led to lowered rate expectations and weakened the EUR’s support. Sentiment pressure has also increased, as seen by a reduction in the demand for protection against EUR strength. Policy guidance from the European Central Bank (ECB) remains neutral, adding little direction for the Euro.

Key Support Level

The 50-day moving average at 1.1651 has been identified as a key support level. Although this threshold has seen no significant breach, concerns have grown about the continuation of the Euro’s pullback, with limited support anticipated between current values and 1.16.

The Euro is soft against the US Dollar, continuing the bearish sentiment we saw develop in the final quarter of 2025. This weakness stems from a growing policy difference between a hesitant European Central Bank and a more resolute US Federal Reserve. The market seems to be selectively focusing on negative news out of Europe while ignoring any minor surprises to the upside.

This view is supported by recent data from the end of last year, which has dampened rate expectations and eroded the Euro’s fundamental backing. The December 2025 US nonfarm payrolls report showed a robust addition of 216,000 jobs, far outpacing the tepid German factory orders reported for the same month. Consequently, futures markets are now pricing in an ECB rate cut by the second quarter of this year, well ahead of any anticipated move by the Fed.

Derivatives Market Shift

In the derivatives market, we have observed a notable shift in sentiment as traders position for further weakness. The premium for options protecting against a fall in the Euro has increased, indicating a growing demand for downside protection. This suggests that market participants are more concerned with managing risks of a drop than positioning for a rally in the near term.

We had highlighted the 1.0800 level as important near-term support, and the break below it last week is a cause for caution. While the move has not been extreme, we are now more concerned about an extension of this pullback in the coming weeks. There appears to be little significant support between current levels and the 1.0650 area, which was a key low from October 2025.

Create your live VT Markets account and start trading now.

Euro weakens 0.1% vs USD; mixed data, muted ECB stance, and sentiment weigh on EUR support levels.

[59

post-38752","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-live-updates
["GET
