Eurostat’s figures for December 2025, released this week, showed retail sales actually contracted by 0.4% as high inflation finally began to impact household budgets. This contrasts sharply with the optimism we saw just two months prior and validates the market’s earlier hesitation.<\/p>\n
The main concern continues to be inflation, which recent Eurozone flash estimates for December showed re-accelerating to 2.9% from 2.4% in November 2025. This puts the European Central Bank in a tough spot, forced to consider keeping interest rates high even as economic activity slows. This conflict between slowing growth and persistent inflation creates uncertainty, which often weighs on a currency.<\/p>\n

For derivative traders, this environment suggests that the Euro\u2019s upside is limited in the coming weeks. Options strategies that benefit from range-bound or downward movement, such as selling call spreads on the EUR\/USD, could be considered.
