The 4-week moving average of jobless claims decreased by 5,000, reaching 217,500 for the same period. In contrast, seasonally adjusted insured unemployment saw an increase, reaching 1,897,000, a rise of 67,000 from the week before. <\/p>\n
Despite a decline in jobless claims, the US Dollar Index remains slightly weaker. It lost 0.1% on the day and was last reported at 98.30.<\/p>\n
We saw the initial jobless claims for the week ending December 13th come in at 224,000, which was slightly better than the 225,000 expected. While the US Dollar Index initially dipped on the news, the underlying economic data supports its strength against other major currencies. The slight rise in continuing claims is worth noting but is not significant enough to alter the primary trend of a tight labor market.
