Looking back, we saw a similar environment in early 2024 when persistent core inflation delayed expected rate cuts and led to a strong dollar rally. The economic data supports this view, as Eurozone third-quarter GDP growth was just confirmed at a sluggish 0.7% annually, well below the more robust growth seen in the US. This weak economic footing makes it hard for the Euro to find support.<\/p>\n
Even with inflation concerns, gold may not be the safe haven it once was, despite holding near $4,000 an ounce. The opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset like gold is high when US interest rates are elevated. We should expect continued pressure on the precious metal as long as the US dollar remains strong.<\/p>\n
