Gold prices in the UAE edged higher on Friday, based on FXStreet data. The metal was priced at AED 503.81 per gram, up from AED 500.63 on Thursday, while the tola rate rose to AED 5,876.41 from AED 5,839.22. FXStreet also put the price at AED 5,038.07 for 10 grams and AED 15,670.63 per troy ounce. The figures are derived by converting international prices via the USD/AED rate and then applying local measurement units, with daily updates taken at the time of publication; quoted levels are indicative and can diverge slightly from local rates.

Gold is commonly treated as a store of value and medium of exchange, and is also used in jewellery. It is often viewed as a safe-haven asset and a hedge against inflation and currency depreciation. Central banks are the largest holders, and added 1,136 tonnes valued at about $70 billion in 2022, according to the World Gold Council. In market terms, gold tends to move inversely to the US Dollar and US Treasuries, and can weaken when risk assets rally.

Derivative Trading Strategies for the Current Gold Rally

With gold prices in the UAE climbing to AED 503.81 per gram today, we recommend that derivative traders position themselves for continued upward momentum in the coming weeks. This daily jump to AED 15,670.63 per troy ounce signals strong underlying demand that is pushing past previous local resistance levels. We suggest buying short-term call options on XAU/USD to capture this bullish run while capping potential downside risk.

Institutional Drivers and Macroeconomic Outlook

Our optimistic outlook is heavily supported by massive institutional accumulation, with global central banks purchasing over 1,000 tonnes of gold annually in recent years. Historically, when central banks from emerging markets like China and India aggressively expand their gold reserves, the precious metal establishes a highly resilient price floor. We believe this sustained official buying will continue to shield long derivative positions from any deep corrections.

Additionally, the broader macroeconomic landscape makes gold an increasingly attractive asset for derivative portfolios. As inflation concerns linger and expectations of lower global interest rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets, capital is actively migrating to safe havens. We advise traders to monitor the US Dollar Index closely, as any further dollar weakness will likely accelerate gold’s climb.

For short-term trading tactics, we favor buying dips using gold futures contracts with tight stop-losses set just below the AED 5,000 per 10 grams support level. Utilizing bull call spreads can also help traders mitigate the high implied volatility currently pricing into the options market. We must remain agile, as ongoing geopolitical tensions are primed to trigger sudden, highly profitable upward swings.
