Gold prices in the UAE were little changed on Monday, based on FXStreet pricing. Gold was quoted at AED 474.81 per gram versus AED 474.54 on Friday, while the tola price held at AED 5,538.14 compared with AED 5,534.89. The publisher derives local gold prices by converting international levels via the USD/AED rate and then applying domestic measurement units, with figures refreshed daily using market rates at the time of publication; it said the prices are indicative and can differ from local quotes. Separately, the World Gold Council data cited shows central banks added 1,136 tonnes of gold worth about $70 billion in 2022, described as the highest annual purchase since records began.
Gold Price Consolidation and Trading Strategies
With United Arab Emirates gold prices steadying at 474.81 AED per gram, we are witnessing a crucial period of consolidation at historically elevated levels. This stability suggests that the market is catching its breath after pushing international prices toward unprecedented highs near the $4,000 per ounce mark. We recommend that derivative traders focus on short-term option strategies, like iron condors, to capitalize on this temporary range-bound behavior.
Central Bank Demand and Macroeconomic Backdrop
Looking back, relentless central bank buying—which topped 1,037 tonnes globally in recent years—continues to provide a solid floor for the precious metal. Because of this strong institutional backing, we believe any near-term pullbacks will be shallow and aggressively bought. Traders should look to accumulate longer-term call options on dips to position for the next leg of the secular bull market.
Additionally, the macroeconomic environment remains highly supportive as the delayed effects of global interest rate cuts keep treasury yields suppressed. Since gold pays no yield, this environment structurally lowers the cost of holding the metal and boosts its appeal. We advise managing risk tightly with stop-loss orders on futures contracts while favoring long-biased derivative setups over the next few weeks.
