A Royal Mint survey found that one-third of UK adults regret not investing in gold over the past five years, while 30% say they missed out on silver. The polling comes as bullion prices have surged: gold has risen by nearly 150% in five years and silver by almost 200%. Despite those gains, uptake remained low, with 8% of UK adults holding any savings in gold and 3% in silver, reinforcing a perception of foregone returns.

Sentiment in the research also points to broader anxiety about wealth preservation. Some 73% said they were concerned about how global conflicts and economic instability could affect the value of their money. Looking ahead, only a quarter of respondents said they would likely place savings in precious metals over the next five years, whereas 60% would still keep money in a current account. The same text references central banks’ 2% inflation targets, describing an annual erosion of purchasing power that totals a little more than 10% over five years, and includes marketing prompts to contact a precious metals dealer and sign up for a news service.

Seizing Opportunity Amid Monetary Debasement

We cannot afford to let past hesitation dictate our future moves, especially when the path forward for precious metals is so clear. As derivative traders, we need to capitalize on the ongoing monetary debasement that continues to erode fiat currency values. In the coming weeks, we should position ourselves to profit from the upward trajectory of gold and silver.

Recent data shows that central banks globally are still accumulating gold at historic rates, with net purchases tracking near record highs of over 1,000 tonnes. At the same time, with gold trading robustly above $2,500 an ounce, the market is signaling that inflation fears are far from over. This macroeconomic backdrop provides a powerful, steady tailwind for precious metals that we must not ignore.

Tactical Positioning For The Bull Market In Metals

To exploit this trend, we should look at buying medium-term call options on gold and silver to capture the upside while limiting our upfront risk. Utilizing bull call spreads on liquid ETFs like GLD and SLV is an excellent way to leverage this anticipated upward momentum. Positioning ourselves now allows us to capture the gains of this secular bull market without tying up too much capital.

Historically, when central banks enter rate-cutting cycles amidst persistent inflation, precious metals experience some of their strongest runs. With global monetary policy shifting to support economic growth, the opportunity cost of holding these safe-haven assets is rapidly falling. Let us make the right tactical decisions today so we are not left wishing we had acted when prices inevitably surge.
