Gold prices in the Philippines fell on Monday, based on FXStreet data. Gold was priced at PHP 8,881.94 per gram, compared with PHP 8,944.38 on Friday, while the per-tola rate eased to PHP 103,599.20 from PHP 104,325.50. Other reference levels were quoted at PHP 88,821.34 for 10 grams, and PHP 276,266.40 per troy ounce. FXStreet derives local prices by converting international benchmarks through USD/PHP and adjusting for local units, with daily updates taken at publication time; quoted levels are indicative and may differ from local market rates.

Gold continues to be treated as a store of value and a hedge against inflation and currency depreciation, and is often associated with safe-haven demand during market stress. Central banks are described as the largest holders, having added 1,136 tonnes valued at about $70 billion in 2022, according to the World Gold Council. The metal is commonly linked to an inverse correlation with the US Dollar and US Treasuries, and it is also priced in dollars as XAU/USD, leaving it sensitive to shifts in the currency and interest-rate expectations.

Derivative Trading Opportunities Amid Recent Pullback

We see the recent dip in gold prices to PHP 276,266.40 per troy ounce as a classic buying opportunity for derivative traders rather than a sign of a long-term trend reversal. This minor pullback offers an attractive entry point to establish long positions, particularly through call options with expiration dates three to six weeks out. We should take advantage of this temporary weakness to build exposure before the market stabilizes and moves upward again.

Institutional Demand And Macroeconomic Tailwinds

Our bullish outlook is backed by sustained institutional demand, with central banks purchasing over 1,000 tonnes of gold annually over the last few years to diversify their reserves. Furthermore, with global interest rates trending downward, the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold remains highly favorable. We expect these strong macroeconomic tailwinds to revive upward momentum, making leveraged long futures contracts highly viable in the coming weeks.

To manage risks during this period of consolidation, we recommend utilizing bull call spreads to limit upfront premium costs while capturing upside potential. Derivative traders should also set tight trailing stops on existing futures to guard against any unexpected downside in the local currency or sudden spikes in the US Dollar. By maintaining a flexible but upward-biased strategy, we can maximize returns as the market prepares for its next breakout.
