Brent Crude Eyes $102 Breakout as OPEC+ Cuts and Inventory Draws Support Uptrend

Brent has resumed a steady advance after holding above its 200-day moving average in August and breaking a multi-month descending trend line. The contract is pushing towards the July peak at about $102, while last week’s low near $89 is acting as short-term support.

If Brent moves above $102, the uptrend could extend towards the next projected levels around $108 and $110, and then $117 if resistance gives way. There are no stated signals of a large pullback at this stage, based on the technical read of current price action.

Technical Outlook And Market Drivers

We are seeing Brent crude establish a strong upward trajectory after successfully holding its 200-day moving average through August and breaking above a key descending trend line. This bullish breakout suggests we should prepare for a steady march toward the July peak of $102 per barrel. This momentum is heavily supported by OPEC+ maintaining its production cuts, alongside recent data showing global crude inventories declining by over 1.2 million barrels per day.

Trading Opportunities And Risk Management

For derivative traders, this clear uptrend presents an excellent opportunity to establish long exposure using call options or bull call spreads. We recommend targeting strike prices around the $102 and $108 levels to capture the projected upside. Historically, similar technical breakouts in the energy sector have led to rapid price expansions of 10% to 15% within a matter of weeks.

To manage risk, we should place protective stop-losses or exit signals just below the recent short-term support floor at $89. Any minor pullbacks toward this support level should be viewed as buying opportunities to build larger positions. If Brent successfully breaches the $102 resistance, we can expect the buying pressure to accelerate toward the next major targets at $108 to $117.
