The Federal Reserve’s Beige Book, used by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) across its eight annual policy meetings, reported that most districts saw little or no net change in overall employment. Since the previous release, two of the 12 districts recorded moderate growth in economic activity, yet the report said expectations “tend to be for slight growth”, with momentum weighted towards manufacturing and constrained by persistent uncertainties.

Price Pressures And Policy Tools
On prices, three districts described overall price growth as robust, while eight said it was moderate; within that group, three of the eight reported intensifying input price pressures, if not already growing robustly. The document sits alongside the Fed’s price-stability mandate, defined by a 2% inflation objective, and its use of interest rates as the primary policy lever. In more extreme settings it can deploy Quantitative Easing (QE), which involves expanding credit through bond purchases and has tended to weaken the US Dollar, while Quantitative Tightening (QT) reverses that process by ending reinvestments and is generally supportive for the currency.
