USD/IDR has retraced with a softer Dollar and lower UST yields helping the Rupiah, after Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti reiterated a stability-first stance at the Sarasehan 100 Ekonom Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday. She framed policy beyond domestic inflation, citing a “higher-for-longer” global rate backdrop and the need to keep Indonesian assets attractive to foreign investors, while maintaining continuity in the broader policy mix that also supports growth. Near-term support for IDR is aided by the easing in UST yields and USD, though elevated oil prices and still-high global yields continue to limit upside.
On levels, immediate support sits at 17,620, the 38.2% fibo retracement of the 2026 low-to-high move; a break would expose 17,444, the 50% fibo. Resistance is seen at 17,710, the 100 DMA, and then 17,800 at the 21 DMA. USD/IDR last closed at 17,660, with daily momentum flat and RSI lower.
Trading Strategy and Recommendations
We suggest derivative traders look for tactical short-term short opportunities on USD/IDR as the currency pair hovers near 17,660. With the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield recently easing back toward 4.1%, the Indonesian Rupiah is finding some immediate relief. Bank Indonesia’s firm commitment to a stability-first policy should keep Indonesian assets attractive and limit sudden upward spikes in the currency pair.
We recommend setting short targets near the immediate support at 17,620, which represents the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level. If the pair breaks below this floor, traders should look to target the next strong support level at 17,444. Since the daily momentum remains flat and the Relative Strength Index is declining, a steady downward grind is the most probable scenario.
Risk Management and Market Watch
However, we must manage risk carefully by placing protective buy-stops just above the key resistance levels at 17,710 and 17,800. External pressures persist, particularly as global Brent crude oil prices remain elevated above $80 a barrel, which can quickly reverse Rupiah gains. We advise monitoring these commodity markets closely, as any sudden surge in energy costs could trigger a rapid rebound in USD/IDR.
