Bitcoin rose back above the $80,000 mark on Thursday, trading at $80,861 as broader crypto prices responded to a firmer US services backdrop. Gold also advanced for a second day, changing hands near $4,500 and up more than 2% on the session, as prices pushed towards resistance around $4,540.47. In the US, the ISM Services PMI increased to 55.4 in August from 54.1 in July, beating the 54.3 consensus, while the Prices Paid Index climbed to 72.6 from 70.3 and the Employment Index edged up to 47.8 from 47.4. New Orders strengthened as well, rising to 60.9 from 57.2.

Technical readings show BTC holding above its 50-day EMA at $70,713, the 100-day EMA near $69,463 and the 200-day EMA at $72,492, although RSI sits at 72.35 and MACD has drifted back towards the zero line. For gold, spot remains above EMAs clustered between roughly $4,318 and $4,366, with RSI at 56 and a still-negative MACD that is losing downside momentum. Support is marked at $4,366, $4,344 and $4,318, with the market focused on whether $4,540.47 gives way.

Inflation Risks And Volatility In Crypto And Metals

With the US ISM Services PMI climbing to 55.4 and inflation signals heating up, we are seeing a strong boost in both crypto and precious metals. However, the surge in the Prices Paid Index to 72.6 suggests that sticky inflation could force the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates restrictive for longer. For derivative traders, this macroeconomic resilience means we must prepare for heightened volatility as the market reprices rate expectations in the coming weeks.

Trading Strategies Amid Overbought Signals And Key Resistance

Bitcoin’s rally past $80,000 is impressive, but with its daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) stretching to an overbought 72.35, we suggest exercising extreme caution with high-leverage long positions. Instead, derivative traders should consider utilizing protective put options to hedge against a potential pullback toward the 50-day EMA near $70,713. Historically, when crypto funding rates spike alongside overbought RSI levels, short-term market corrections of 10% to 15% are highly probable before the broader uptrend resumes.

Gold’s ascent to $4,500 brings it incredibly close to its descending trendline resistance at $4,540, making this a critical junction for futures and options traders. We recommend waiting for a clean, high-volume breakout above $4,540 before committing to aggressive call options targeting $4,600. If the precious metal fails to clear this resistance, executing short-term put options or futures shorts could yield quick profits as the price slides back toward the $4,366 support band.

The broader economic picture shows a resilient US economy, which historically strengthens the US Dollar and can eventually cap the gains of non-yielding assets. We believe the coming weeks will reward traders who employ market-neutral strategies, such as long straddles, to profit from sharp movements without picking a directional bias. Keeping leverage conservative will be vital as we navigate these hot inflation prints and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
