Taiwan’s industrial data continued to accelerate on AI and high-performance computing demand, keeping the export cycle strong into the third quarter. Industrial production rose 25.6% year-on-year in July, above the Bloomberg consensus of 20.7% and up from 22.6% in June; within that, manufacturing output increased 26.9% from a 24% pace previously. Computers, electronics and optical products surged 95.6%, while electronic components rose 22.7%; beyond technology, machinery gained 19.8% and basic metals 13.2%, even as chemicals and autos lagged.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs projected August manufacturing growth of 25.5–28.9% year-on-year as seasonal electronics demand combines with AI-related momentum. Exports climbed 32.9% year-on-year in July and export orders jumped 61.9%, underpinning expectations for Q3 GDP growth of about 12.0–12.5% after 12.9% in Q2. The economy grew 14.2% in H1 2026, and the government lifted its 2026 growth forecast to 11.05%. Inflation around 2.1% leaves the CBC holding its policy rate at 2%.

Equity Derivatives: Riding Taiwan’s Technology Boom

We see an unprecedented opportunity in Taiwanese equity derivatives as the island’s tech-driven economy runs on absolute overdrive. With July manufacturing output surging 26.9% and August estimates projected to hit up to 28.9% growth, bullish momentum in the Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) is set to accelerate. We recommend derivative traders look closely at long call options on the TAIEX or major semiconductor exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to capture this explosive upside.

Taiwan’s dominant position in global hardware is undeniable, with local chipmakers manufacturing over 90% of the world’s super-advanced microchips used for artificial intelligence. This industrial surge is heavily concentrated in the technology sector, where computer and optical product output skyrocketed by nearly 96% in July. Traders should capitalize on this by executing bull call spreads on giant semiconductor listings like TSMC, which has seen its capital expenditures projected to reach up to $37 billion this year to meet this relentless global demand.

Currency Strategies And Volatility Outlook

On the currency front, the local central bank is keeping its policy rate steady at 2% to support this expansion while inflation hovers comfortably at 2.1%. Because policy makers are holding rates steady despite booming growth, we expect the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD) to remain relatively stable rather than spike. Derivative traders can exploit this by selling premium through short strangle or iron condor strategies on USD/TWD options, benefiting from the low volatility environment in the currency corridor.

The staggering 61.9% jump in July export orders indicates that global demand for AI infrastructure is nowhere near its peak. Historically, the third quarter is the strongest period for electronics shipments, which suggests that implied volatility for tech-focused derivatives is currently underpricing the potential upside. We advise positioning in out-of-the-money call options expiring in late September and October to maximize leverage ahead of the peak autumn shipping season.
