USD/CNH stayed range-bound, with momentum indicators described as flat and the pair still expected to trade between 6.7400 and 6.7500. Over the latest session it moved between 6.7423 and 6.7479, then ended at 6.7449, down 0.02%. The previous reference point cited was 6.7440, and the intraday outlook remains unchanged.

On a 1–3 week view, the pair is still seen drifting lower towards 6.7300, based on the prior assessment dated 03 Aug, when spot was 6.7490. Downward momentum has not increased, but the possibility of further slippage remains. A break above 6.7580, described as strong resistance and unchanged, would shift expectations towards range-trading instead.

Range-Bound Trading Strategies and Intraday Outlook

We see USD/CNH currently locked in a tight range between 6.7400 and 6.7500 due to flat market momentum. For intraday derivative traders, we recommend range-bound strategies like selling iron condors or short straddles to capitalize on this quiet period. This sideways movement is highly typical when immediate market triggers are lacking.

Medium-Term Outlook and Risk Management

Looking ahead over the next one to three weeks, we still see scope for the pair to drift lower toward the 6.7300 level. Traders can position for this move by buying short-term put options or utilizing bear put spreads. We must invalidate this bearish bias if the price breaks above the strong resistance level at 6.7580, which would signal a return to range-trading.

This downward pressure aligns with broader macroeconomic shifts, as the US Federal Reserve’s rate cuts in 2026 have narrowed the yield gap with China. With the US 10-year Treasury yield hovering near 3.6% compared to China’s stable 2.2% government bond yield, the dollar’s yield advantage has shrunk to under 140 basis points. Historically, such a compressed yield differential triggers capital flows back into the onshore Yuan, dragging the currency pair down.

To manage risk, we advise keeping stop-loss orders close to the 6.7580 threshold. Interestingly, the implied volatility for one-month USD/CNH options has fallen to around 4.8%, making option premiums relatively cheap. This low-volatility environment provides an excellent opportunity to buy cheap downside protection or trade breakout strategies if the range ruptures.
