A daily close back above $4,400 would refocus attention on $4,400\u2013$4,500, and further strength would bring the 200-day SMA at $4,541 into view. Historically, when the US Dollar Index holds above the 100 mark, gold prices face strong headwinds, often seeing corrections of 3% to 5% in the weeks following a hawkish central bank pivot.<\/p>\n
With the Relative Strength Index turning bearish and pointing downward, we believe selling call options above the $4,400 resistance level represents a high-probability strategy. Alternatively, short-term traders can buy put options targeting the immediate daily support level of $4,322 and the 100-day Simple Moving Average at $4,319. If these key levels fail to hold, historical market structures suggest a deeper slide toward the 50-day Simple Moving Average near $4,295 is highly likely.<\/p>\n
We must also monitor the oil markets, where prices are falling due to potential diplomatic breakthroughs between the US and Iran. Falling energy prices could temporarily cool short-term inflation expectations, giving the Fed more room to hike rates by the 33 basis points already priced in by money markets for the end of the year. This macro environment traditionally strengthens the greenback and keeps steady pressure on non-yielding assets like bullion.<\/p>\n
Despite the short-term bearish outlook, we advise against aggressive, long-term short positions because of robust underlying demand. Data from the World Gold Council shows central banks purchased over 1,000 tonnes of gold annually in recent years to diversify reserves, which acts as a strong structural floor for the metal.
