The upcoming European Central Bank meeting is unlikely to be a major catalyst for the Euro. We expect the ECB to maintain its current policy, but the chance of an interest rate cut is much higher than a hike. This is because inflation remains a persistent issue, even as it has cooled.<\/p>\n
Recent data supports this cautious view, with Eurostat\u2019s flash estimate for January showing inflation at 2.3%, still slightly above the ECB’s target. This makes an immediate rate cut unlikely, but the central bank will probably signal its willingness to ease policy later in the year. The current EUR\/USD exchange rate sits near 1.0950, well below the levels that caused concern in the past.<\/p>\n
