The price per gram dropped to 9,132.23 PHP from 9,187.19 PHP the previous day.

The price per tola also fell to 106,517.80 PHP, down from 107,157.60 PHP. This data is translated from international prices into local currency and units, with daily updates based on current market rates.

Gold As A Store Of Value

Gold has long been a store of value and medium of exchange, also used as a hedge against inflation. Central banks are prominent holders, adding 1,136 tonnes worth about $70 billion in 2022, the largest annual increase recorded.

Gold’s price moves inversely with the US Dollar and Treasuries, often rising when the Dollar depreciates. Factors such as geopolitical instability or low interest rates can increase Gold’s appeal due to its safe-haven status. Generally, a strong Dollar tends to maintain lower Gold prices, while a weaker Dollar can lead to increased prices.

The small dip in the gold price is creating a point of interest for us. Given the market’s focus on upcoming central bank meetings, this pullback could be a short-term reaction to profit-taking. We see this as a potential entry point before any new policy signals are announced.

The key driver remains the outlook on interest rates, with the futures market now pricing in a 70% chance of a US rate cut by mid-year. Looking back at 2025, we saw how a strong dollar capped gold’s gains, but that trend appears to be reversing. A weaker dollar environment would provide significant tailwinds for the metal.

Demand From Central Banks

We must also consider the steady demand from central banks, which added over 980 tonnes to their reserves in 2025, continuing the strong purchasing trend we saw in previous years. This institutional buying provides a solid price floor for the market. Ongoing geopolitical tensions are also keeping safe-haven demand simmering beneath the surface.

With global inflation proving stubborn and hovering around 3.2% at the end of last year, gold’s role as a hedge is becoming critical again. After the strong equity market rally we experienced through much of 2025, signs of a slowdown are emerging. This makes holding call options on gold an attractive strategy to hedge against potential stock market declines.

Create your live VT Markets account and start trading now.

Gold prices in the Philippines dipped Thursday, reflecting a stronger Dollar and shifting investor sentiment toward safety.

[59

post-39843","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-live-updates
["GET
