We have seen Japan’s core inflation, released for July 2025, remain stubbornly above the central bank’s 2% target, posting at 2.5%. For the very near term, leading into the September policy meeting, little action is expected, with over 90% of economists forecasting no change. The main focus should be on the fourth quarter, particularly the October meeting, which is flagged as the most likely time for a rate hike.
