US crude oil inventories fell by 0.3m barrels in the week to 4 September, according to the American Petroleum Institute. The draw was smaller than the forecast decline of 1.3m barrels.
The data point to a more modest tightening in stockpiles than markets had anticipated, with the reported change undershooting expectations by 1.0m barrels.
