Dollar Index Confronts Downside Technical Break
The dollar index DX.F is sliding towards another technical inflection after last week’s failed breakout above a weekly rising wedge. Monday’s bounce defended two bullish gaps at 101.60–101.70 and 101.65–101.76, but Tuesday opened with a bearish gap at 101.76–101.78 and then fell through both gap zones intraday. Price also moved below the June–July highs at 101.49–101.57, printing a 101.45 low; a daily close under 101.49 is still the condition for confirming a broader break. If that occurs, 101.10 is flagged as the next downside objective, aligned with the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement and a measured move from the orange consolidation.
Gold Pressured, Other Metals Mixed
Gold GC.F has not rallied alongside the weakening dollar and remains technically pressured. Monday’s close below 4170 confirmed the closing of Friday’s bullish gap at 4170–4191.95, while Tuesday’s drop to 4130.10 pushed price back into a weekly bullish gap at 4098–4135; within it sits the daily 78.6% Fibonacci retracement near 4113.74. Near-term resistance is centred on 4156, which coincides with the orange consolidation floor and the black declining channel ceiling, then 4233 and the 4240–4250 zone; a confirmed weekly close below 4098 would mark a more serious bearish shift. Elsewhere, silver and platinum remain range-bound, copper has again held its rising trendline, and palladium nears a decision point around a potential double bottom.
