Gold near $4,256 as Hormuz diplomacy lifts risk appetite; bitcoin options focus on $65,000 breakout

Gold Derivatives: Strategy as Diplomatic Hopes Rise

We see a prime setup for derivative traders as gold hovers near $4,256, buoyed by hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough in the Strait of Hormuz. While easing geopolitical tensions usually cool safe-haven demand, the metal’s underlying momentum remains incredibly strong. Historically, global central bank gold buying has hit massive levels—consistently hovering near record highs of over 1,000 tonnes annually—which provides a solid structural floor for our long positions.

We recommend derivative traders monitor the immediate resistance at the 200-day EMA of $4,279. A clean daily close above this level, followed by a breach of $4,316, justifies buying short-term call options to capture a rapid breakout. Conversely, if negotiations stumble and tensions flare again, we can use any corrective pullback toward the 50-day EMA at $4,187 to accumulate leveraged long exposure.

Bitcoin Options: Navigating Fragile Sentiment and Volatility

For Bitcoin, which currently trades around $64,540, we must navigate a tight consolidation phase within a descending parallel channel. The crypto Fear & Greed Index has crept up to 28 from the extreme fear zone of 25, suggesting that market sentiment is slowly recovering but remains highly fragile. This low-sentiment environment historically precedes sharp volatility squeezes, making premium collection or volatility breakout strategies highly attractive for the coming weeks.

We should watch the $65,000 resistance level closely, as a successful break above the 50-day EMA of $64,659 could spark a quick run toward the 100-day EMA at $67,096. Traders can buy call options on a confirmed daily close above $65,000 to ride this short-term bullish momentum. On the flip side, if sellers reclaim control and push the price back below $64,405, we anticipate a swift decline toward the channel floor near $61,262, where buying put options would be the preferred move.

Gold advanced by more than 4% to trade near $4,250 on Wednesday, with XAU/USD quoted around $4,256 as markets weighed comments from US President Donald Trump that “a lot of progress had been made” towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with a possible announcement as soon as Wednesday. A CNN report cited a senior Gulf official putting the chances of Iran reaching a deal at 50-50, while Iranian state media said any agreement with Oman has “no connection” to reopening. Risk appetite improved modestly: the crypto Fear & Greed Index rose to 28 from 25 a day earlier, though it remained in Fear territory.

Bitcoin traded around $64,540, holding near support at $64,405 and testing resistance at the 50-day EMA of $64,659, with the Parabolic SAR near $65,604 and the 100-day EMA at $67,096 overhead; channel support is flagged at $61,262. Momentum signals were mixed, with RSI around 53 and MACD still negative. In gold, price held above the 50-day EMA at $4,187 but stayed below the 200-day EMA at $4,279 and the 100-day EMA at $4,316, after a break above a prior trendline near $4,000; RSI was 61 and MACD positive.
